day 1
Alice Springs - Devils Marbles - Banka Banka Station
An early start to day one from Alice Springs as we travel north along the Stuart Highway on the first day of our exhilarating journey into the Barkly region, which is synonymous with the Australian cattle industry. Our first point of call is the Devils Marbles (referred to as Karlukarlu by the Aborigines); The Devils Marbles are a collection of huge round, red-coloured boulders that have diameters of up to 7 metres! From here we continue our northerly route to Tennant Creek for our first overnight camp in the historical Banka Banka Station and Campgrounds. Along with plenty of modern camping facilities, during your overnight stay you can enjoy a cool drink in the licensed bar at the historic mud homestead.
day 2
Daly Waters - Mataranka - Katherine
After a hearty camp breakfast it is time to make a start on another great day in the outback as we travel through historic Renner Springs and the service town of Elliot towards the historic township of Newcastle Waters. The township is part of a large, historic cattle station in the Barkly Tablelands and visitors can step back in time while wandering the remains of the pub, visiting the museum and viewing the Drover's Memorial Park. From here we journey onto the famous Daly Waters Pub in Daly Waters. The historic pub is a great place to enjoy a lunch break, especially the World Famous Beef and Barra on the BBQ before a refreshing afternoon dip in the thermal pools at Matarnaka. Our day ends in Katherine - well known for its gorges and rivers, where we can enjoy a relaxing evening in one of the camping grounds with full facilities.
day 3
Victoria River - Timber Creek - Lake Agryle - Kununurra
Enjoy a tour around the stunning Katherine area before following the Victoria Highway through Victoria and Timber Creek’s. Today we will experience a dramatic change of scenery as we travel past the Pinkerton and Spencer Ranges before enjoying a leg stretch at the NT/WA border. A picturesque scenic drive will announce our arrival at Lake Argyle, from here we set up our evening camp in time to enjoy the magical sunset.
day 4
Wyndham - El Questro
Your morning will be spent enjoying the best spots of Kununurra. A special stop at The Grotto is on the agenda. The Grotto is a rock water hole that boasts a depth of 122 metres! From the Grotto it is onto Wyndham and a lunch stop at 5 Rivers Lookout that is at an altitude of approximately 360m above sea level and overlooks the town of Wyndham. The next stage of our travels takes us via the Gibb River Road and Emma Gorge to our overnight camp at El Questro Wilderness Park. El Questro Wilderness Park is a staggering 1 million acres in size and is considered one of the world's unique holiday destinations.
day 5
Gibb River Road - Kind Edward River
This morning we visit the oasis that is Zebedee Thermal Springs before travelling through the awe-inspiring Cockburn Ranges via the Gibb River Road. Plenty of photo opportunities to be enjoyed today, including the Pentecost River before we travel past the Gibb Range onto Kalumburu Road and our bush camp along the King Edward River.
